Ikan Patin Sungai Mahakam di kabupaten Kutai Kartanegara ini oleh penduduk setempat disebut Ikan Patin Kuning atau Patin Pulutan. Untuk saat ini rekor tangkapan terberat jenis ikan ini seberat 31 kg yang di tangkap oleh Aji Rijani dari Tenggarong Seberang.
Ikan ini mengeluarkan lendir yang berasal dari sumber kelenjar yang terletak di belakang kedua pantingnya.

Short description

Dorsal spines (total): 1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7 - 7; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 27 - 32. Short caudal peduncle (14-16.7% SL). Large eye diameter (22.8-29.4% HL). Short mandibulary barbel (19.6-45.8% HL). Short predorsal length (30.1-32.7% SL) (Ref. 46915).

Biology :

Small specimens (smaller than 15 cm) were collected in brackish water in the river delta, while larger ones were found in the upper part. No vegetation were found at the banks, relatively strong current, deep and turbid water. An omnivorous fish, feeding mainly on insects and small fruits. Spawning periods unknown (Ref. 46915).
